Groundwater potential mapping using the integration of AHP method, GIS and remote sensing: a case study of the Tabelbala region, Algeria

Recently, groundwater resources are assessed and evaluated using Geographic Information System (GIS) remote sensing technologies due to their effectiveness wide spatial coverage. This work aims identify potential areas in the Tabelbala region which lies Algerian desert order help for solution of water shortages. GIS employed preparation controlling factors such as lithology, lineaments, drainage network, slope, land use/land cover, topographic wetness index, elevation. Statistical Analysis, well interpretation data, allow extraction important features about study area its characteristics. The prepared layers combined with multicriteria analysis zones (GWPZs) based on statistical weights. To validate conducted work, 222 wells/boreholes collected assess areas. Results reveal that very good potentiality class covers approximately 8.81% total while 6.47% shows poor potentiality. In addition, application ROC curve an AUC 89% reveals proposed approach. final resulting map can be used identification suitable sites wells implantation.
